Rhino Skin: How to toughen your skin for climbing

Want to get rockin’ hands with Rhino Skin? Whether you climb purely for fun or want to become a professional, you should prioritise having healthy skin.

No matter how long you’ve been climbing, you likely understand how important your skin is. Unfortunately, you’ve probably experienced some sort of issue with it, too.

Climbers will use any excuse in the book for why they fell off the wall. Maybe your skin has been too dry, cracked, too sweaty, too thin, etc. You can keep blaming your skin for why you fell off your project, but not after using Rhino products!

Your skin is an easy scapegoat because it’s personal. If we’re not blaming the humidity, wind, or cold, we’re blaming our body. And I get it; it’s natural. It’s easy to blame something other than acknowledging that we’re just not having a good climbing session.

Do you want to eliminate the skin excuses you’ve been using for years? Don’t worry—you can still blame the conditions!

What is Rhino Skin?

Think of the skin on a Rhino. It’s tough, durable and resilient. They are beautiful but dangerous. To climbers, that’s Rhino Skin!

A company dedicated to creating skincare products for climbers, by climbers. All their products are plant-based and created from entirely natural ingredients. Built by a chef and tweaked by a pharmacist, Rhino products were made to help climbers keep adventuring. They worked with alpine, sport, traditional climbers, skiers, yoga instructors, and even doctors to develop revolutionary skin routines.

The founders, Justin and Andi, developed Rhino Skin in 2015. They used the legendary climbing area of Smith Rock in Oregon as their testing ground and have changed the climbing world.

Rhino has skincare solutions for everyone. Whether you suffer from thin and sweaty hands or your skin dries out and cracks, there’s a solution for you.

Professional climbers like Janja Garnbret, Jonathan Siegrist, Tom Randall, and Shauna Coxsey use Rhino products to help them send. Want skin like a pro climber? Nerd-out with me about how you can revolutionise your climbing.

Rhino Skin Performance

Rhino Skin: How to toughen your skin for climbing

Performance is meant for use when you’re planning to perform! This could be for a competition or your next day out trying hard on your project. Performance is an antiperspirant made without aluminum. It’s non-greasy and perfect for sweaty hands and feet.

Performance sets itself apart from its competitors because, while it uses the same ingredients, they’re less concentrated. Their studies show that this helps prevent splits and cracks, like those from Antihydral.

Rhino Performance is meant to be used 6-8 hours before performance, so apply it before bed. It can even last up to 4 days after use! Methanamine is used as a non-aluminum antiperspirant, and Menthol is used for preemptive pain relief. Grape Seed Oil promotes skin health and elasticity, while Willow Bark works as an anti-inflammatory.

Rhino Skin Spit

Rhino Skin: How to toughen your skin for climbing

Dry fire – it hurts! It rips your skin and leaves your tips burning. We’ve all been there, but some more than others. Rhino Skin’s Spit is here to help if you’re prone to dry firing.

Spit is non-greasy, aloe-based, and quickly absorbs into your skin. It promotes hydration and elasticity, so you have more friction when grabbing holds. Just spray it on before climbing, let it dry, then send!

Spit uses Magnesium for tendon and connective tissue health, plus Aloe for hydration. Lemongrass Oil is used for that little oomph of an energizing scent, while Hyaluronic Acid promotes elasticity. This wouldn’t be a Rhino product if it didn’t help with regeneration, so they include Salicylic Acid, too!

What if you have incredibly sweaty fingertips? Rhino thought of that, too. Tip Juice is designed to be used once a week to decrease sweating and improve your crimping.

Spray it where you want it once a week and let it work for 8 hours. Rhino recommends not to wash your hands during the activation period, so using it before bed is easiest.

Also, Tip Juice is made with only two ingredients: 12% Methylamine and Alcohol. This is the solution for seriously sweaty fingertips.
